Community litter picks underway in Newport Pagnell

Newly elected Lib Dem Councillor Tony Oyakhire and fellow ward councillor Andy Carr were out in Newport Pagnell on Saturday 18 November with local residents to help spruce up the town.

Starting at Station Road Car Park, the team continued collecting litter along the Railway Walk, and further up towards the bridge over the M1.

Along the way, they discovered lots of empty bottles, food wrappers, and gas cannisters, and together they collected more than a dozen bags of rubbish.

Following the success of their first litter pick, the team are now planning to hold events every other month and want more local people to join them.

Newly elected Councillor Tony Oyakhire, said:

“We all want our local area to be clean, tidy, and welcoming, and having lived in the town for more than 26 years, I take great pride in where I live. Litter picks are a great opportunity to meet new people and chat to your local councillors, so please come along and get involved if you’d like!”

Fellow Newport Pagnell South Ward Councillor Andy Carr, added:

“Litter picks have great benefits for the community, not only do they bring residents together, but they also boost your mental and physical health by getting out in the fresh-air and helping you to keep active. I’m so pleased that residents joined us to give this part of the ward a good tidy up and I’m looking forward to the next one.”

The next litter pick will take place on Saturday 20 January 2024, meeting at St John’s Car Park at 1.00pm.

Children and families are welcome and equipment such as litter pickers are all supplied.
