Housing proposals for green spaces - glimmer of hope
The green space behind the Springfield pub, including a new play area, are under threat from development
My Lib Dem colleague, Ric Brackenbury, has "called in" the decision of the Labour Cabinet member to go ahead with public consultation on proposals to build on green spaces in Downs Barn and Springfield. The decision was taken at a meeting on Tuesday evening in spite of protests from several members of the public and ward councillors. Ric's call-in means the decision is challenged and will have to be looked at by a council committee with representatives of all political parties involved.
Meanwhile, in response to the clear anger of the public and councillors, the Labour Cabinet member has indicated that he isn't averse to looking at these sites again. He is consulting Council officers. This provides the first glimmer of hope for residents but we need to keep up the pressure as we haven't won yet.
Thank you to the many residents who have rung, e-mailed or contacted us via the website or social media to let us know how strongly you are opposed to building houses on your green spaces. We will keep you in touch with developments (no pun intended!)
