HUGE £35m WOLVERTON TOWN CENTRE REGENERATION INVESTMENT PLAN

MK Council is set to agree a huge plan to invest £35m to regenerate Wolverton town centre.

While plans to regenerate the Agora site have been proposed for almost 25 years, next week could finally see spending plans proposed by the Progressive Alliance agreed by MK Council.

The Council's investment will see the existing eyesore demolished and bring new homes, community space, independent shops, green space and jobs into Wolverton, bolstering Wolverton's High Street and offering a sustainable way of living.

The 'Love Wolverton' project will include a total of 115 new sustainable homes, including co-housing for over 50s which will provide a self-supporting community to reduce loneliness and isolation for residents.

Community space and retail units for independent shops will bring new opportunities for young people and local businesses to Wolverton, and a sustainable transport hub will offer people greener ways to get around.

In response to the Progressive Alliance's commitment to taking action on climate change, the redevelopment will reduce carbon emissions by 70% with the inclusion of a renewable energy micro-hub on site.

Councillor Rob Middleton, Labour Progressive Alliance Cabinet Member for Budget and Resources said:

"MK's Progressive Alliance is committed to a fairer and greener recovery from the pandemic and the Love Wolverton regeneration scheme will enable us to deliver this locally in Wolverton".

He continued:

"Investment in affordable and sustainable housing, new independent shops and the creation of jobs will breathe life into the high street and help the local economy to recover in a fairer and greener way".

He concluded:

"We've worked closely with the community and local residents over the last two years and I'm delighted to see this redevelopment moving forward in a way that meets the needs of local people, local businesses and people across the city who will want to come and visit".
