The figures for last year (ie between 1 April 2014 and 31 March 2015) show that there were 130 fewer crimes than in the previous 12-month period. The overall number of crimes decreased from 18,295 in 2013/14, to 18,165 last year. Last year's figure represents a large decrease on the figure from five years ago, which was 25,540 in 2009/10 - meaning the number of crimes during the year in that time has fallen by 7,375 (28 per cent). The number of burglaries reported in the LPA decreased by 18.5 per cent (more than 300 fewer victims) from 1,685 in 2013/14, to 1,373 last year. The number of vehicle crimes also decreased, by 8.9 per cent (187 fewer victims), from 2,096 in 2013/14, to 1,909 last year. Supt Gez Chiariello, LPA Commander, said: "I am pleased to see that the overall number of crimes year-on-year continues to fall, particularly the burglary figures. But we are not complacent and will be working to bring the figures down even further over the course of the next year."
