MK Lib Dems Promise Improved and Innovative Public Transport
Ahead of the local elections on 6 May 2021, the Liberal Democrats have pledged to improve and innovate Milton Keynes public transport.
The Group have said that they will:
- Protect and repair our unique network of redways.
- Work to ensure innovations in public transport serve the needs of our residents.
- Upgrade more of our bus stops to have proper shelter and lights.
- Push for more electric vehicles to be used in public transport schemes.
- Support the development of a mass transit transport scheme across Milton Keynes.
- Support the building of East-West Rail between Oxford and Cambridge and campaign for Milton Keynes to benefit from the infrastructure that comes with it.
- Campaign for a Milton Keynes Transport Authority, like Transport for London.
Lib Dem Candidate for Newport Pagnell South Ward, Andy Carr commented: "Milton Keynes needs a public transport network which meets the needs of the people, is environmentally valid, and sustainable financially. Ultimately we must have our own Transport Authority like London, and the Liberal Democrats will continue to lobby for this, so we can control our own future."
Andy added: "Until then, the combination of traditional fixed bus routes, the flexibility offered by Demand Responsive Transport ("DRT") and the planned Rapid Mass Transit system, will provide a multi-modal approach to public transport which will meet our needs in the coming years."
