http://douglasmccall.mycouncillor.org.uk/2014/04/26/recycling-rates-being-put-at-risk/dmcc-pink-sack/ Cllr Douglas McCall is opposing the Labour Council's proposed changes to MK's Recycling Scheme.

The Labour Council is trying to use the budget process as a means to make major changes to Milton Keynes recycling scheme.

The last time Labour ran the Council recycling rates fell by a third. When the Lib Dems ran the Council recycling rates increased FIVE fold.

I was the Lib Dem Cabinet member who introduced the popular pink sacks, the green garden waste collection and kitchen waste collection, which has helped MK stay as one of the leading recycling places in the UK.

The Lib Dems do not believe that the Labour proposals to split garden and kitchen waste collections and charge £40 per year to collect garden waste stack up and risk MK's successful recycling scheme.

Likewise the trial on the proposal to get rid of the pink sacks and replace with a reusable hessian 'bag for life' will have just started at the point the budget decision has to be made.

The Lib Dems believe it would be foolhardy to risk the successful pink sack scheme before the results of the hessian bag trial are known. We will be opposing both these proposed changes and insist that a proper review of the Council's Waste Strategy takes place before any changes, if any, are made.

The Lib Dems will be fighting to keep Milton Keynes as a leading recycling city.
