More bins to crack down on litter and fly-tipping in MK

25 Feb 2022

More bins have been installed across the borough, as the Labour and Liberal Democrat Progressive Alliance cracks down on litter and fly-tipping.

73 new dual bins have been fitted throughout Milton Keynes, alongside the 19 solar powered smart bins that were installed last year.

The Progressive Alliance is committed to keeping Milton Keynes clean and tidy, and to crack down on litter and fly-tipping has already:

  1. Hired 5 new litter wardens who can issue offenders with on-the-spot fines
  2. Installed CCTV in fly-tipping hotspots, rates of which have now fallen to their lowest in 4 years
  3. Introduced same day booking at the tips, as well as the option to reschedule bookings, making it easier than ever to properly dispose of waste

Cabinet Member for Public Realm, Labour Councillor Lauren Townsend, said: "The Progressive Alliance is committed to keeping Milton Keynes clean; we take a zero-tolerance approach to littering and fly-tipping."

"Alongside our litter wardens, easy to access tips and CCTV in fly-tipping hotspots, these bins will help us keep our city tidy and green."

Councillor Paul Trendall, Liberal Democrat Cabinet Member for Customer Services, added: "With even more bins on the way, we're taking the steps needed towards a cleaner, greener and safer Milton Keynes."

The new bins follow the Alliance's fly-tipping action plan, which sets out what can be done to educate the public on proper waste disposal and strengthen enforcement for those who break the law.
