Please follow the following advice to help prevent your vehicle number plate being stolen:

  • If possible park your car in a garage at night or try to park to prevent access to either front or rear number plate.

  • Try to park in well lit areas easily observed by neighbours and other members of the public.

  • Park in a safe public car park - look for the Park Mark signs.

  • Consider fitting theft resistant number plates which are designed to break apart if they are forcibly removed from the vehicle, for further information see the Secure Plate website.

  • Fit security screws. Simple anti-theft devices which can easily be fitted in place with a screwdriver to replace existing screws, but cannot be removed using standard tools. It is important that the correct size of screw is used for the pre-existing screw holes and application. Security screws are available from high street automotive accessories outlets.

  • Have security screws fitted free of charge at Halfords Autocentre, 10 Duncombe Street, Bletchley, MK2 2LY. Phone 01908 270476 to arrange an appointment (please note that number plates cannot be supplied during the fitting process and if required should be purchased in advance).

  • If you see any suspicious behaviour in progress, call the police on 999. If you have any further information, please call the police non-emergency number on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. For further advice or information, please call your local neighbourhood team on 101 or visit the Thames Valley Police website.
