Over £500,000 to improve redways and footpaths across Milton Keynes

[Milton Keynes, 10 February] A cash injection of over £500,000 has been proposed by the Progressive Alliance to improve redways and footpaths across Milton Keynes.

The funding, which forms part of the Labour and Liberal Democrat councillors' 23/24 budget proposals, would allow teams to inspect and improve even more pathways in city estates.

Just like potholes on city roads, extreme weather can cause footpaths and redways to crack. City Council teams inspect all defects reported and conduct regular repairs. The extra half a million pounds would ensure further repairs as the city continues to grow.

Councillor Paul Trendall, Liberal Democrat Progressive Alliance Interim Cabinet Member for Public Realm, said:

"Our city is so well connected by its redways and pathways which make it easy for people to get about by sustainable means of transport, including cycling, walking, and even using e-scooters. That's why it's important we continue to do the essentials well and look after our pathways, and this funding will make sure we do exactly that."

As part of the 2023/24 budget, nearly £3.5m has also been set aside to fix potholes and roads. Other features include an additional £500,000 to support families through the cost-of-living crisis, £250,000 to launch a Mortgage Interest Rate Relief Fund, and extra funding to support high streets and businesses.

The 23/24 budget will be decided at Full Council on Wednesday 22 February.
