Public outrage greets Labour Councillor's decision

3 Feb 2015

Residents of Springfield and Downs Barn turned out in force tonight to oppose the Council's intention to go out to public consultation on proposals to include three green spaces on their estates in future house building plans. Residents spoke passionately about what a negative impact it would have on where they live and were supported by local ward councillors and other members of the public who don't even live on the two estates.

In spite of the strength of public feeling, the Labour Cabinet member has decided to continue with his plans to consult widely about building on these sites. The announcement of his decision was greeted with outrage and angry comments about the Council not listening. The Cabinet member wouldn't even commit to making sure every resident surrounding the sites is notified about the consultation.

Ric Brackenbury, Rosemary Snell and I will continue to support residents to fight these daft proposals which would change the nature of the estates for ever. We will be challenging the decision to go out to consultation.
