Residents invited to take part in community litter picks
After a short summer break, community litter picks are returning on Saturday 26 August, in Oakgrove in the morning and in Brooklands in the afternoon.
Previous litter picks have been hugely successful at sprucing up the area and bringing residents together, and Broughton ward councillors Uroy Clarke, Sam Crooks, and Kerrie Bradburn want more local people to join them.
Children and families are welcome and equipment such as litter pickers, gloves, and hi-vis jackets are all supplied.
The Broughton ward Focus team have been organising litter picks since 2021, taking place on the last Saturday of every month, where volunteers have helped to collect up to 13 bags of litter per event.
Broughton Ward Councillor Uroy Clarke who organises the litter picks in Oakgrove, said:
“Litter picks are so important for the community, not only do they clean up the area, but they also bring residents together. I really look forward to these monthly events and catching up with residents.”
Longstanding Councillor Sam Crooks, added:
“While out litter picking, we often find used coffee cups, plastic bottles, and food wrappers. All these things are a risk to our wildlife and collecting rubbish prevents animals from getting hurt.”
Councillor Kerrie Bradburn, concluded:
“Anyone is welcome, these events are a great opportunity to meet local people, have a chat with your ward councillors, and tidy up the area.”
