Sheltered Housing Wardens Saved

The Labour Council gave in to the pressure from residents, the Liberal Democrats and others to retain the warden service in sheltered housing schemes, but they wanted to charge those pensioners on housing benefit, who currently get the service for free, £5 per week.







The Liberal Democrats won the argument that our least well off pensioners should continue to receive this important service free of charge.





I am pictured with delighted residents at the Chartwell Sheltered Housing Scheme when I called in to tell them the good news.




There will now be a review of 'independent living'.
